Club's 19th Annual Bartlein Squash Championships that were held on December 10th – 12th had an entry of 35 players, slightly down on last year, but in keeping with how entries at local events seem to be going. For the past ten years the Santa Barbara Open Squash Championships has been a fundraiser for the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department “Drug Abuse Resistance Education” program, more commonly known as D.A.R.E., and in that time we have raised about $400,000 for their program, just from this annual squash tournament ... At exactly 11:00 AM, on a brisk and autumn-feeling type of day in Santa Barbara, the squash world of southern California was changed forever. At this time, for the first time ever, the Santa Barbara Squash Club held its inaugural practice. Surf's Up at SB Squash

"Surf’s up!" The first words I hear on the morning bulletin at my junior high school in Santa Barbara, California. As usual, the surf club spokesman is notifying all kids of the unusually large waves being spotted throughout the beaches of Santa Barbara. Now, if I were a surfer, I don’t think I would stand out from any other student here at school. However, being the only squash player in at a public Junior High School with an enrollment of one thousand kids has always raised eyebrows to those familiar and to those not so familiar with the game of squash ... September 20, 2003: 2003 DARE Open

16 Pros from all over the world put on a great display of squash at the 2003 DARE Santa Barbara Open and showed the great depth of the game at Professional levels at the moment.
